An Iranian national has been ordered held in custody after being charged with two counts of rape.

Abdulla Ahmadi, a 25-year-old Iranian living in Crewe, spoke via an interpreter.

Magistrates remanded him in custody today following an attack on a woman on Brighton beach in the early hours of October 4.

Sussex Police have arrested and charged three men, each facing two counts of rape.

The other two men charged in the case are Egyptian nationals from Horsham, identified by police as Karin Al-Danasurt, 20, and Ibrahim Alshafe, 25.

Sussex Police say a 33-year-old woman is receiving support from specialist officers.

Magistrates have remanded the Iranian national until November 13, when he is due to appear at Lewes Crown Court.
