Great Britain expands sanctions to include Rosneft, Lukoil, and Nayara Energy

The United Kingdom has broadened its sanctions list, targeting Russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil, along with the Indian company Nayara Energy, which is partially owned by Rosneft, according to the UK government’s official portal reported by UNN.

Under the new measures, all assets of the sanctioned companies and individuals will be frozen within the UK. The British authorities cited that Rosneft and Lukoil continue to support the Russian government through their operations in the energy sector, which remains strategically vital for the country’s economy.

Previously, London imposed personal sanctions on the CEOs of both companies: Igor Sechin of Rosneft in March 2022 and Vagit Alekperov of Lukoil in April 2022. Some other executives and vessels connected to the corporations were also already included on the UK sanctions list.

Meanwhile, the United States has not sanctioned Rosneft and Lukoil directly but has blacklisted their subsidiaries and associated individuals. Recent reports indicate that a US-sanctioned Russian LNG plant in the Arctic completed its tenth shipment since June 2025, mostly headed to China, highlighting Russia’s efforts to bypass Western restrictions.
