A two-year-old girl passed away after police were called to a home for a "welfare check," and a man and woman have been arrested.
The girl sadly passed away in the hospital as detectives investigate her tragic death. Police were called to a home on Hartington Close, in Thornaby, near Middlesbrough, at around 4:20 p.m. on Saturday for a welfare check. Officers arrested a 25-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man in connection with the child’s death, and they are being questioned by police.
Witnesses reported that investigators remained at the property overnight on Saturday.

Forensic officers and a crime scene investigation van were spotted at the home on Sunday as the investigation into the tragic death continues, according to TeesideLive.
Forensics crews were seen taking photographs and conducting inquiries inside and around the property.
The toddler’s death is currently being treated as unexplained, according to Cleveland Police.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Police, in a statement, said: "Officers were called to Hartington Close in Thornaby at around 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, 13th September following concerns for the welfare of a two-year-old child.
"The child was taken to the hospital, where she very sadly passed away. Her death is currently being treated as unexplained, and detectives have launched an investigation.
"Our thoughts are with the family of the child during this very difficult time. A 25-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the child’s death, and they are being questioned. Enquiries are ongoing."
