Former presidents are entitled to Secret Service protection for life.

Harris, being a former vice president, was entitled to six months of protection after her term ended, as per federal law.

This period concluded on July 21.

However, her protection was extended for an additional year through a directive – which was not publicly disclosed until now – signed by then-President Joe Biden shortly before he left office, according to several people familiar with the undisclosed arrangement.
