Ex-police officer jailed for stealing women’s underwear during search

A police officer conducting a search of a woman’s bedroom took something that wasn’t exactly evidence.

PC Marcin Zielinski can be seen searching through a woman’s underwear drawer on a hidden camera placed behind some children’s toys.

Unaware he is being recorded, Zielinski, 47, looks away before reaching back into the drawer, grabbing a pink pair of panties and stuffing them into his back pocket. He then quickly leaves the room.

Zielinski resigned from the force while under investigation in November 2024.

He was sentenced to four months in prison this week after admitting to the theft.

Cambridge Crown Court heard that Zielinski stole the panties while he was carrying out a Section 32 search at a Hertfordshire home on September 12 last year.

A former Hertfordshire police officer has been jailed after stealing a woman???s underwear during a search at her home, in what senior officers have condemned as a ???fundamental betrayal of the public.??? Marcin Zielinski, 27, of Shefford, Bedfordshire, was sentenced to four months in prison at Cambridge Crown Court yesterday (18 August). He admitted one charge of theft and a charge of corrupt or improper exercise of police powers and privileges by a constable. The court heard that Zielinski stole an item of underwear while carrying out a Section 32 search at a property in Stevenage on 12 September 2024. A woman living at the address had been arrested in connection with an unrelated matter, but she was later released with no further action taken. Zielinski resigned from Hertfordshire Constabulary in November 2024 while under investigation. Assistant Chief Constable Genna Telfer said: ???Zielinski has let down the public of Hertfordshire, the police service as a whole and his former colleagues, who act with professionalism and integrity. His criminal behaviour damages the reputation of policing and represents a fundamental betrayal of the public and the values for which the police service stands.??? Zielinski is now barred from working in policing.

A woman living at the address had been arrested in connection with an unrelated matter and was later released with no further action taken.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said the force was ‘appalled’ by his actions, adding that Zielinski had already been suspended and would now face misconduct proceedings.

They said: ‘This behaviour is a gross breach of trust and falls far below the standards expected of a serving officer. His conviction and sentence reflect the seriousness of the offence.’

The victim is being supported by specialist officers.
