Four bodies have been discovered floating in the River Seine, on the outskirts of Paris.
A commuter notified French police after noticing – from the window of the RER C train he was riding in – what looked like the body of a man.
He raised the alarm at around 1pm on Wednesday and guided police and emergency services to a street along the river in the town of Choisy-le-Roi, Val-de-Marne.
Officers were sent to the location and the body of a man was found in the water.
A second body – located about 50 meters from the first – was spotted shortly after.
During further investigation, a third body was then pulled out from branches along the river, and finally a fourth, drifting with the current.
Le Parisien reported that the four victims were adult men. Three were fully clothed, while a fourth was naked.
It is believed they had been submerged in the River Seine for several days before being found.
Meanwhile, Actu17 reported that three of the men are of African descent and the fourth of North African descent.
They have been transported to the Paris Institute of Forensic Medicine for identification and autopsy.
There is currently no evidence to suggest that all four victims died at the same time.
A source close to the investigation said: ‘ An autopsy will be performed this Thursday morning and will shed more light on the circumstances of their deaths.
‘There is no evidence to suggest a criminal investigation at this stage.’
