Most people likely wash their hair in completely different ways - from the amount of product used whilst in the shower, to time spent actually shampooing and using conditioner, it's personal for everybody.

There are, however, according to one hairdresser, a specific set of rules you should be following when you're washing your hair to make sure it's clean and looking as fresh as possible.

The Ventura Hair Group took to TikTok, where they post as @venturahairgroup, to ask people a vital question: "Are you shampooing your hair properly?"

And if you're not using a seven-step washing method - it turns out you're not!

First, they recommend wetting the hair thoroughly before taking any other measures. Then, rather than just applying shampoo to your hair, you should 'lather it up' with water beforehand. Then you need to 'scrub scrub scrub'.

The hairdresser recommends you 'don't forget the nape' of your neck, as because it's underneath where your hair sits, many people will not clean it properly.

There is a vital step that most people miss though, and it's really important if you want your hair to be really clean. The video reads: "Rinse and shampoo again! Why?

"First shampoo opens your hair cuticles. The second shampoo removes all the dirt and grease from the hair."

The video then shows the water being squeezed from the woman's hair, and the video says: "Squeeze out excess water from the hair before applying conditioner."

The experts also recommend applying 'conditioner to mid-lengths and ends - NOT YOUR ROOTS', then you should 'massage your scalp to close hair cuticle'.

This 'helps hair growth and increases hair thickness', and as a final step, you should rinse with cold water to close the hair cuticle completely.

In the comments, people were shocked others didn't follow this advice already.

One wrote: "I always get so shocked when people don’t double shampoo. I wash my hair every 5-7 days so its just standard to do 2 shampoos for me."

"Who can afford to shampoo twice these days", another joked.
