The submarine, named Sindbad, was carrying about 44 passengers of different nationalities during a sea trip to inspect the coral reefs underwater in the Red Sea.

At least six individuals are feared dead and multiple tourists injured following an accident involving a tourist submarine in Egypt.

The Sindbad submarine, carrying around 44 passengers of various nationalities, was on a sea trip to view the underwater coral reefs. Authorities have dispatched several ambulances to the Hurghada coast.

Nine people are reported injured, including four critically, while 29 others were rescued.

Emergency services continue to work at the scene. The town is a favoured seaside destination, with regular submarine trips from its harbour into the Red Sea.

The submarine involved in today’s incident has been providing tourist services for several years, local media reports, reports the Mirror.

The cause of the incident remains unknown. The Red Sea Security Directorate confirmed receiving a report about the tourist submarine sinking near the marina of a renowned hotel, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.

Many submarines operating from the Hurghada harbour offer trips to the nearby coral reef and marine wildlife.
