Harry and Meghan steal William's thunder with 2 huge announcements before speech

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stole the spotlight from Prince William just minutes before he was due to speak at the Diana Legacy Awards.

The Prince of Wales gave an emotional speech at the ceremony, which was set up in honour of Princess Diana. He paid a moving tribute to his late mother and said the 20 winners of awards reflected "my mother's belief that young people can change the world".

However, William was overshadowed by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they made two huge announcements. Firstly, Meghan launched her brand new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard just moments before William arrived at the awards, which were held at the Science Museum in London.

Meghan's new venture has been billed as a lifestyle and cooking brand and is believed to have been in the works for the past year. It's believed the project will tie in with a new cooking show with Netflix.

Following Meghan's announcement, the couple announced the winner of their $100,000 (£78,500) NAACP – Archewell Foundation Digital Civil Rights Award Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliam slammed the couple's timing and said it wasn't an accident that it coincided with the Diana Legacy Awards.

"It's no accident. For years they've been unpredictable but they have been predictable in one sense, and that is the unerring timing when they believe it's beneficial to get information out," he told the Daily Mail.

Harry also made an appearance at the Diana Legacy Awards, although he managed to avoid bumping into his estranged brother by appearing virtually. The Duke of Sussex made an emotional speech as he paid tribute to his late mother.

Harry addressed the recipients of the Diana Legacy Awards and smiled as he said his mum would be "incredibly proud" of the work the group was doing. Harry then praised them for "protecting" his mother's legacy.

The Diana Legacy Awards take place every two years and recognise the most esteemed honours, offering awardees personal and professional development support as they enhance their social action work as well as helping them mobilise others to do the same. Harry told the group he thinks the work they are doing is "amazing" before saying the world's future "depends on some of you".
