Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have found themselves with a "golden opportunity" to heal their strained relationship with the Royal Family, according to an expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have become estranged from The Firm in recent years, but that could all change after the royals were plunged into chaos when the Princess of Wales released an edited family photograph.

The picture showed Kate posing for a sweet picture with her three children, but fans quickly noticed several "errors" with the snap. Royal sources have branded the controversy "exceptionally damaging" to the Royal Family after Princess Kate admitted to making several changes to the photograph. PR expert Ryan McCormick believes Harry and Meghan could use the drama to their advantage.

He told The Mirror: "Meghan and Harry now have a golden opportunity to not only accelerate healing their riff with the Royal Family but, to restore some of their likeability in the eyes of the public. If I was advising Meghan, I would tell her to speak loud and passionate in defence of Kate.

"Meghan may not like being on the brunt of negative press but, she's definitely more familiar with it than Kate. The Duchess could help the Princess of Wales tremendously by guiding her through this crisis publicly and behind the scenes."

Ryan also said the Royal Family have been plunged into crisis thanks to the Mother's Day photo and said those behind the drama should be held accountable. "The controversy surrounding Kate Middleton's Mother's Day photo has now become a full-blown PR crisis.

"Some sites have listed up to 18 noticeable edits including a missing wedding ring. The only thing I haven't seen yet is evidence of Kate's face and skin complexion being changed (which could imply a coverup to the true nature of her health). Whomever released the image may want to consider another career," he said.

Ryan's comments come after Kate released a statement on Monday to try and clear up the confusion over the digitally altered image, which was the first official image of her since she underwent abdominal surgery in January.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, she said: "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C."
