Gary Goldsmith has suggested that being thrown into the limelight thanks to his niece Kate Middleton has become a hindrance in his life.
The Celebrity Big Brother star, 58, is the proud uncle of the Duchess of Wales who tied the knot with Prince William in April 2011. Gary is the younger brother of Carole Middleton and is related to Kate and her siblings Pippa and James. He is the son of a painter and decorator from West London and grandson of a miner from a pit village in Durham.
Gary initially delighted fans of the iconic reality show when it was first announced that he was joining the 2024 lineup. However, he now appears to be grating on a huge majority of Celebrity Big Brother viewers who have accused him of constantly trying to "name drop" and spill "uninteresting" Royal Family gossip.

Tonight's episode of Celebrity Big Brother will see the housemates transform the house into a peaceful and calming zone called Big Brother's Celestial Retreat.
Big Brother says: “Housemates. To live harmoniously in the Celebrity Big Brother house and become the very best versions of yourselves, you will spend today at Big Brother’s exclusive celestial retreat.”

Housemates the choose Levi as the ‘guiding eye’ of the group as they express emotions through dance. The next part of the task sees Housemates take a petal from the bowl which has a question inscribed on it. The Housemate will then choose one of their fellow celebrities to answer the question.
Fern reads: “How have you found peace within yourself or are you still looking?” and asks Gary to answer the question.
To which Gary says: “I think peace is something always to be striving for. I thought I was having a really cool life until something hits you. One day I was Gary, a businessman having a laugh with a great family. And then the next minute, I’m a national villain. So, I don’t really know what true peace is if I’m honest.”
Making his debut on Celebrity Big Brother on Monday night, Gary sparked a mixed reaction from viewers as some were over the moon to see him enter the house alongside Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh, while others hit out at the star for trying to "make money off his family ties".
On Monday night, one unimpressed viewer took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to write: "Gary Goldsmith should be ashamed of himself. He's in that house to make money off his family ties." Another echoed: "There always has to be someone whose related to the Royal family in the house, but why does it have to be Gary Goldsmith."

During a conversation with his fellow housemate Sharon, Gary confessed that he feels like the "black sheep of the Royal Family".
However, hundreds of viewers were quick to point out that Gary "isn't even part of the Royal Family". One viewer snapped: "Is Gary for real??? He's not even IN the royal family so how could be possibly be a black sheep. OMG give me strength."
"Not Gary making himself out to be on the same level as Princess Diana. Babes you can't be a black sheep when you're not even a royal lol," another quipped. "GARY GOLDSMITH ladies and gentlemen. Thinks he's practically the King of England," someone else joked.
"Yeah, Gary you're Kate Middleton's uncle. Doesn't mean you're a Royal ffs," another Celebrity Big Brother viewer complained, while someone else echoed: "Gary Goldsmith is delusional if he thinks his boring chats about the royal family makes him one of them. Like imagine Prince William going on CBB."

However, others chimed that Gary was exactly the kind of energy the Celebrity Big Brother house needed. "Everyone hating on Gary Goldsmith but I think he's lovely. He can't help that he's related to Kate Middleton guys - and he speaks so highly of her. Love his energy," they enthused.
Upon entering the house on Monday night, Gary was asked by the show's host AJ Odudu if Princess Kate will be watching his venture on Celebrity Big Brother. He replied: "If she is it will be behind a sofa, I guess."
