The 96th annual Academy Awards are almost here, with some of the biggest names in Hollywood getting ready to see if they've won a coveted trophy.

The 2024 Oscars will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 10 and will be broadcast live for fans to tune in and see if their favourites take home a gong. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel will take on hosting duties for the night and it's sure to be an evening full of drama and close-calls.

The Oscars have already caused controversy among film fans as the awards were dragged into a sexism row when Margot Robbie failed to receive a nomination for Barbie. Her co-star Ryan Gosling faced calls to reject his nomination and only time will tell if the scandal will surface at the ceremony. For now, here is everything you need to know about the Academy Awards.

Jimmy Kimmel is back as host for this year's Oscars, making it the fourth time he's been given the honour. He'll be joined by a number of special guests to give out the gongs.

In keeping with tradition, last year's big winners are set to return to present the top awards. The presenters will include Brendan Fraser, Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Scarface co-stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino are also set to hand out an award. Other big names who will grace the stage include Zendaya, Matthew McConaughey, Nicolas Cage and Lupita Nyong’o.

Which films are nominated for Best Picture?

Oppenheimer looks like it will be in for a great night at the Oscars as the film bagged an impressive 13 nominations. It's up for the Best Picture award alongside American Fiction, Anatomy of A Fall, Barbie, The Holdovers and Killers of the Flower Moon

Maestro, Past Lives, Poor Things and The Zone of Interest have also been nominated for Best Picture. The Oscar nominations caused a stir, however, as Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig were snubbed.

Ryan Gosling was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his work on Barbie, but his co-star Margot and the film's director Greta weren't recognised. While the two women did miss out, America Ferrara is in the running to take home the Best Supporting Actress award.
