Princess Kate is said to have reached out to Meghan Markle to try and put their feud behind them and it seems King Charles was the driving force behind the decision.

The Princess of Wales is believed to have called the Duchess of Sussex to "clear the air" following the release of Omid Scobie's bombshell book Endgame. The book reignited the royal race row two years after Meghan and Harry claimed an unnamed member of the Royal Family had expressed "concerns" about "how dark" Prince Archie's skin would be when he was born.

King Charles and the Princess of Wales were dragged into the row last year when a version of Omid's book named them as the royals involved. Now, a source has claimed the monarch urged his daughter-in-law to reach out to Meghan to put an end to the drama after Prince William declined.

"Shortly after the book’s allegations came out, Kate reached out to Meghan to clear the air," a source told In Touch Weekly. They also explained how it was Charles who requested the call, adding: "Charles forced Kate to become his peacemaker after William's refusal."

The source continued: "She agreed, because when it comes to the royal family, Kate has always taken her duties seriously — she does what she is told. This feud has gotten so unseemly and out of hand, it's starting to overshadow his reign and the entire monarchy."

The monarch is hoping to "heal the rift once and for all", according to the source. Endgame caused controversy when it reignited the royal race row, but author Omid performed a U-turn shortly after it was released.

Omid originally denied ever having named the royals. He told the BBC: "The book I wrote, the book I edited, the book I signed off on, did not have names in it."

After originally denying naming Charles and Kate, he eventually admitted he did name the alleged "royal racists" in an "early" version of his book. The writer said that "uncleared text" was provided to a Dutch publisher with plans that a translation "would be updated to reflect the final version of the book".

Dutch publisher Xander Uitgevers said an "error" had occurred which resulted in Charles and Kate being named. Endgame was quickly pulled off the shelves while the error was sorted.
