A mum has come under fire for dishing up 85p ready meals for her daughters as she claimed she's "allowed a night off".

Ready meals can make life so much easier, especially after a long day you can just pop it in the microwave without much thought. However mum Kez has been slammed for giving her daughters cheap and cheerful meals while she tucks into an Indian takeaway - but claimed they love the "homely" meals.

The mum shared a photo of the spaghetti bolognese, chicken curry and rice and cheese and tomato pasta from Tesco's Hearty Good range and claimed her daughters love them as their "fancy" meal - but people weren't impressed with her dinners, as she was slammed for having a takeaway as she defended herself for being "allowed a night off".

Kez shared the image of the ready meals in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook and wrote: "Thought I'd give these a go, just some meals to keep in the freezer... mainly for on a weekend when me and hub have an Indian takeaway. Our girls just like to pick something they fancy and do it between themselves (obviously supervised)."

Trying out the range, Kez added: "They've all had a different one for tea with added garlic bread. Tried each other's and was all a win," and concluded: "Will deffo be buying again, especially as they're only 85p each from Tesco" and shared that the meals are a "good portion size too".

However, she was bewildered by the backlash on her post and shared that people were "quick to judge". One Facebook user quipped: "Tried them. Not for me. Nor my kids," while a second added: "Nothing like homemade food than packet food to throw away!" And another commented: "Every time I see the word 'hearty' it means meals the size of a budgies appetite."

"Good portion sizes....for a toddler maybe," one person chimed and a fellow foodie stated: "These used to be nice but then I went to eat the cheese and tomato one and it tasted like mould."

From the backlash, the mum came to her defence and penned: "Girls don't like an Indian. We have our night they have theirs.. we are allowed one night off surely? If they choose a takeaway of their own, so be it! My days - people are too quick to judge. I was just giving more options.. girls love homely food."

Meanwhile, some supported her ready meals as one mum shared: My kids (teenagers now) have been having these for years," and another added: "I keep them in the freezer so they can just help themselves if I'm at work." While a third echoed: "These are brilliant my daughter loves them."
