Avocados are notorious for being harder than concrete one second, then a mushy pile of mess the next.

Despite allegedly sacrificing our homeowner status to buy them, you'd think the popular fruit (yes, avocados are fruit) would behave a bit more when it came to their unpredictable lifespan. After all, there is nothing more frustrating than stepping into your rented kitchen and finding out the landlord hasn't fixed the leaky pipe - and your avocado is still as tough as a diamond.

Luckily, one woman has discovered a 'game-changing' hack that will ripen them up in just two minutes - and doesn't require any expensive gadgets.

Taking to TikTok, Laure Lee explained how she speeds up the ripening process to make a creamy, smooth guacamole. "I've got to show you something super cool," she said.

"So see this super avocado that is not ripe, you're going to cut it in half and wrap in [cling film] then stick it in the microwave for two minutes. Careful, it will be hot but look how ripe it is now." Laura then pops the avocado in the fridge to help it cool down so it's easier to handle.

If you're on the other end of the millennial dilemma and need your avocados to stop spoiling so quickly - one woman has discovered a life-changing hack to make them last 'forever'.

TikTok user Kat claims her mum is behind the genius method, which requires you to place your avocado in a jar of cold water. She says this will stop the fruit from going bad while still allowing it to soften up.

After taking out the avocado from the jar of water, she said: "It feels soft! It wasn't soft when I got it - it was hard." Upon cutting open the fruit to discover it in perfect condition, Kat added: "No f***ing way! That's crazy! Holy s***. Well anyway, if you want to keep your avocados lasting longer then that's how you do it."
