The celebrations that come with having a baby are eagerly anticipated by many parents-to-be with baby showers and gender reveal parties commonplace across the US and increasingly common in other countries.
One mum-to-be had her party ruined by her own mother's cruel prank as she excitedly waited to find out her baby's gender. The disappointment on the young mum's face is clear as she realises what has happened.
Back in 2021, TikTok user @dinkymisspretty, real name Ashlee, had family and friends gather round to watch her pop a balloon and see for the first time whether her unborn baby would be a girl or a boy.

Ashlee, who already has a son, was overwhelmed with emotion when she popped her balloon and pink confetti burst out signalling that she was having a little baby girl.

In the short clip on TikTok, the young mum showed the moment she burst the balloon at her gender reveal but on closer inspection the confetti coming out of the balloon is actually blue for a boy.
The confusion comes because at that exact moment, her mum decided to shoot a cannon of pink confetti right in her face.
Ashlee can be seen jumping up and down with joy at seeing the pink confetti, only for her face to turn to thunder when her little boy came over to tell her what her mum had done.
She said in the video: "Clearly you can see I wanted a girl so bad and in that moment I felt like I hit the lottery." Ashlee then added: "Then here comes my son making me realise its really another boy. I was p***ed."
Commenters were quick to defend Ashlee's response, with one user writing: "This is the only one I can actually be okay with the parent being mad. Cause why play like that." The mum-to-be responded: "Right, I wasn't mad it was a boy I was mad they had me think it was a girl."
Another added: "Now see this reaction is valid because you can't play with a pregnant woman's emotions like that. I'm sure you'll have a beautiful baby boy though."
Some people were more extreme with their reaction, one user said: "Moms can be so bitter some times. And honey just because she's your mom doesn't mean you can't cut off the toxicity she brings."
At the time, Ashlee responded to this comment and said: "I haven't talked to her since this. But for plenty other reasons lol so I agree with this message!"
Overall the comments agreed that Ashlee's upset at what transpired was perfectly valid and even shared their own gender reveal disasters. One woman said her partner's father threw him a gender reveal party - without her being invited or informed.
Since posting the video, Ashlee has posted one video of her newborn to TikTok and appears to have had a girl after all, captioning one video "BabyGirl we prayed for you".
