A man has been arrested after he was reportedly spotted trespassing in the gardens of Windsor Castle.
Police confirmed the member of the public was stopped in the grounds at around 10.20pm on Tuesday, February 20. He was taken into custody before being detained under the Mental Health act.
It was claimed King Charles and Queen Camilla were in the grounds at the time, though this has not been confirmed by aides at Buckingham Palace.
The Prince of Wales carried out royal duties at the Castle just a few hours later on Wednesday morning, while the King held an audience with Rishi Sunak at Buckingham Palace the same day.
A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police told the Mirror: "Officers arrested a man on suspicion of trespass in the grounds of Windsor Castle. The 39-year-old was stopped at around 22:20hrs on Tuesday, 20 February. He was taken into custody before being detained under the Mental Health Act."

One source told The Sun that the "King was in residence at the time of the break-in", though was not in any danger. They added: “The intruder was not believed to be holding a weapon, and was alone. A sweep of the Castle grounds confirmed no-one else was involved." The intruder is said to have been found in the King's private garden.
It is only the latest high-profile intrusion by a member of the public at Windsor Castle. Jaswant Singh Chail was detained on Christmas Day 2021 close to Queen Elizabeth II’s private residence, where she and other members of the royal family were at the time. The-21 year-old had 'discussed' his plans with his fake girlfriend, an AI program and emailed a secret diary before breaking into the castle grounds, where he spent two hours at large before being confronted by police. Chail was sentenced last year to a "hybrid order", meaning he would be transferred from Broadmoor high security hospital to prison when he is well enough.
