Big Mac fans vowed to "never" order the McDonald's staple ever again after finding out how their onions are apparently made.
If you love nothing more than tucking into a juicy McDonald's burger and tasting crispy, mouth-watering onions, you may be in for a shock. One former worker claims the fast food chain has been executing this style of preparation "for at least 40 years".
A former McDonald's employee Huseyin, from Australia, explained how the onions were made while he worked at one of the chain's eateries. Taking to TikTok, he said that dehydrated onions are put in a container, before being drowned in ice and water.
Huseyin claims: "This is how we make the onions. First get two packs of dehydrated onions and put them in a container." As he spoke to his 800,000 viewers, you can see the onions being poured into a tub before ice and water is added. The sludgy concoction is then mixed together before being put in a fridge.
The post raked in hundreds of reactions. A number of people shared their horror after the discovery, and one individual said: "I'm never having Maccies again". Another wrote: "OK, never again." "I am never ordering extra onions in my Big Mac anymore," wrote another.

One former worker commented: "They've been making the onions like this for at least 40 years. I used to work at McDonalds." Another said: "Wow that's changed. What happened to the bucket with water down the bottom and the removal insert?"
"I just started working at Maccies and I'm in for a shock," added another. One commenter claiming to be a McDonald's worker explained: "I work at Maccies, the onions have to be cold otherwise they'll go pink." "I work at Maccies and can 100% confirm this," pointed out another.
But a number of people said the revelation has not put them off ordering their favourite McDonald's treats. "I would still eat it," wrote one. "Tastes so good," another said. "Still tastes good," agreed another.
At the end of last year McDonald's announced it would be giving its iconic Big Mac burger a makeover. Changes include everything from how the burger is cooked, how many are grilled at a time and how ingredients are handled before even making it into the bun. Changes are reportedly being made to compete with the ever-growing gourmet burger market.
In a spring advert campaign, the global fast food powerhouse promises "best burgers ever," the new initiative seeks to make patties juicier — with over 50 modifications. Chris Young, McDonald’s senior director of global menu strategy, said changes were being made to maximise on taste and quality.
The fast food company is also bringing back it's adult happy meals, first launched last year. With each one comes with a very special toy: a modern take on the beloved McNugget Buddies toys that ’80s and ’90s kids cherished.
