Harry's 'military briefing' approach in new video after losing Home Office court case

Prince Harry's video message for the WellChild Awards nominations ahead of their 2024 ceremony holds key clues to how the Duke is feeling after losing his High Court case.

The Duke of Sussex appeared 'military-like' in his direct to camera response according to a body language expert, as he praised the "extraordinary strength and spirit" of young people with complex medical conditions for the UK charity. Looking relaxed in a grey shirt and wearing his leather cord necklace, the Duke urged the public to put forward the names of the "remarkable individuals who inspire you" for the awards.

Yet, however relaxed he might try to appear, his body language and demeanour reflect a more 'authoritative' approach in his short speech.

Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, body language expert Judi James commented: "That background might look familiarly Montecito and the thong round his neck implies a casual approach but Harry’s body language here suggests a more ‘military briefing’ style of delivery as he bounces on his heels with his chin raised, his brows steepled and his head cocking from side to side."

She continued: "There is some body-bristling here to suggest gentle authority and his chest seems to splay as he braces himself when he speaks of the children’s’ 'resilience and positivity'. There is even a Lord Kitchener-style point to the camera as he enlists the help of 'You' the viewer."

Earlier today Harry lost a High Court battle against the UK Home Office over the level of his security protection when he is in the UK. Harry had been trying to overturn a ruling which saw his security status downgraded after he stopped being a "working royal".

Following High Court ruling, details of Harry's case have been made public - including his fears for his family when he visits Britain. Much of the legal proceedings surrounding the case, which covered security arrangements for senior figures, were held in private in December, with the ruling issued by retired High Court judge Sir Peter Lane on Wednesday morning.

In the ruling, Mr Lane rejected the Duke's case, finding that there had not been any unlawfulness in reaching the decision to downgrade Prince Harry's security status, and that any departure from policy was justified. In December, when the challenge was made, Home Office lawyers told the High Court that Harry would still have publicly-funded police security, but these would be "bespoke arrangements, specifically tailored to him", rather than the automatic security provided for full-time working royals. Hours after the announcement, the Duke revealed he plans to appeal the decision.
