Have you ever noticed a flight attendant sitting on their hands? You're not alone.
Flying can be nerve-wracking at times but having clued-up flight attendants often makes anxious passengers feel better. If you have been on a number of trips abroad you will have noticed by now that flight attendants adopt an orderly routine in a bid to make the flying experience smooth.
Henny Limm, who works for Philippines-based airline Cebu Pacific, says that one key steps for flying is staff sitting on their hands. She took to TikTok recently to explain exactly why staff buckle up and sit on their hands at the start and end of a flight.
Speaking via her account @_hennylim_, the flight attendant said the act is called the 'bracing position'. Henny said: "Ever wondered why cabin crew sits like this during take-off and landing? It's called the bracing position and involves fastening the seatbelt securely, sitting upright, sitting on hands - palms up, thumbs tucked and arms loos. Feet flat on the floor."
She commented: "The aim is to keep the body in a rigid pose so that if there was any impact for an unplanned emergency, the body is damaged less. This keeps body movement restricted so that there is less chance of injury if there was an impact."

Henny added that during this time, flight attendants will be going through 'the silent review' - which prepares them for an emergency situation and is executed every take-off and landing. Explaining what it entails, Henny said: "This includes being aware of emergency equipment in the location, door operation, commands given and any visual clues outside the aircraft."
Henny also shares other vital travel tips online - including flight secrets, aircraft safety tips, as well as food reviews from different countries. She also explained that she commits to lifting weights so she is able to lift luggage, heavy safety equipment with ease, and push food trollies with ease while she is on flights.
