Emmerdale fans questioned if one major character was leaving the ITV soap, and now we may have answers.

The character in question was tipped to bow out from the show after four years after dramatic scenes, with a second character also at risk of leaving after more than two decades in the role. But the soap has now cleared up said speculation for one of the villagers, appearing to confirm they are going nowhere at least for the time being.

On Thursday night, Mackenzie Boyd played by actor Lawrence Robb was stabbed and left gravely injured by his wife Charity Dingle. Soap legend Emma Atkins' character Charity did not meant to hurt Mack, and believed she was attacking villain Harry who she recently killed.

Charity has been suffering with PTSD ever since she actually shot and killed Harry, real name Damon Harris. She's been experiencing nightmares and panic attacks, and in the latest episode she accidentally stabbed Mack during one of her nightmares.

She was arrested for the crime as Mack fought for his life, with his loved ones unsure if he would survive. Mack's brush with death left some viewers questioning if Mack would die and leave the show for good, and whether Charity might be sent down.

But the latest episode appeared to clear up rumours regarding at least one of the exits, while it only fuelled the possibility that one of the pair would be leaving. Mackenzie woke up after his surgery during Friday's visit to the Dales, with his loved ones thrilled to see him regain consciousness.

Moira celebrated as she realised her brother was going to be okay, with the scenes appearing to rule out the theory that Mack would be killed off. This likely means actor Lawrence is not leaving the show, at least for now.

But as the episode came to an end, Charity was heard telling the police everything and how she stabbed Mack. She pleaded with the detectives to charge her for her crime, believing she needed to be punished.

So if they do charge her for attempted murder depending on what she and Mack say, could this lead to an exit for Charity? Viewers will have to tune in to find out what happens next in the big plot.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.* Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on , , , , , and .
