British tourist dead in popular holiday hotspot after horror bus crash
A British pensioner has tragically died after being run over by a bus whilst on holiday in Lanzarote.
Police have confirmed the victim was an 83-year-old woman. She was rushed to hospital in "critical" condition but sadly passed away the same day on Wednesday. Officials said she was hit by the vehicle at around 9am and was taken to Jose Molina Orosa Hospital in the island capital Arrecife.
Authorities confirmed they were alerted to a "traffic accident" in Costa Teguise shortly after 9am. It comes as witnesses reported that the driver was traveling "too fast" at the time of the incident. A spokesperson for a regional government-run emergency coordination centre said: “A woman run over by a bus in Lanzarote has been taken to Doctor Jose Molina Orosa Hospital with serious multiple injuries. The first alert was received at 9.08am on Wednesday, saying a traffic accident had occurred in the municipality of Teguise and a person had been injured.”

According to local media, some witnesses had told investigators the driver of the bus had been driving at a high speed but there has been no official confirmation of this claim or about the exact circumstances of the accident.
The bus driver, who has not been arrested, will be questioned as part of the probe. His vehicle is also expected to be examined to rule out any possible mechanical faults. The bus is said to be owned by a private firm that provides a public transportation service. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by police employed by Teguise Town Hall, who will submit a report to an investigating magistrate.
