Jurgen Klopp will turn down the chance to manage Bayern Munich and instead press ahead with his plans to take a year out of the game.

Bayern will be searching for a new manager this summer after it was announced Thomas Tuchel would be departing at the end of what has been a disastrous season. Klopp has been floated as one of their potential targets, with the German set to also be leaving Liverpool at the end of the campaign.

But Marc Kosicke, Klopp's agent, has now dismissed those rumours, telling Sky Germany: "Jürgen Klopp will not coach any club or national team for a year after this current season. That remains unchanged.“

Earlier on Tuesday, Bayern announced that Tuchel would leave his role following showdown talks. Tuchel won the Bundesliga title last season, but has overseen a disastrous campaign in his first full year in charge.

His side are currently eight points adrift of leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the German top-flight, were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal in the second round by third-tier Saarbrucken and are trailing in their Champions League last 16 tie with Lazio.

"FC Bayern Munich and head coach Thomas Tuchel have jointly decided to end their working relationship, which was originally set to run until 30 June 2025, on 30 June 2024. This is the outcome of a constructive discussion between CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and Thomas Tuchel," a club statement read.

After announcing Tuchel's exit, Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen confirmed the German giants would pursue a "new footballing direction". He also called on the squad to put their full focus into making Tuchel's final months in charge a success.

"In a good, open discussion, we came to the decision to end our working relationship by mutual agreement in the summer. Our goal is to pursue a new footballing direction with a new head coach for the 2024/25 season," Dreesen said.

"Until then, every individual at the club is expressly called upon to achieve the maximum possible in the Champions League and Bundesliga. I also explicitly hold the team accountable in this regard. In the Champions League in particular, after losing 1-0 in the first leg at Lazio, we are convinced we will reach the quarter-finals at a packed Allianz Arena with our fans behind us."

Klopp announced his exit from Liverpool at the end of January, with the German insisted he was running out of energy, hinting it would be some time before he took another top level job.

"I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. That I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take," he said.

"It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.

"After the years we had together and after all the time we spent together and after all the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you and the least I owe you is the truth – and that is the truth. That’s it, pretty much."
