Childcare costs might have some people scrambling, but this demanding mum went too far.

Every parent wants to find a childcare option that is as close to perfect as possible, and after all, it's only natural to want the best for your kids. These days, with nursery waiting lists seemingly endless and the costs feeling eye-wateringly high for a lot of people, it can feel like an insurmountable challenge.

But one mother, who posted possibly the most demanding job advert for a babysitter you have ever seen, quickly went viral, with people online truly shocked that she thought she could get away with asking for so much, whilst offering to pay so little.

The unnamed woman took to Facebook to share the post back in 2020, in which she made a number of rather shocking demands. The advert was then shared on Reddit as people were so taken aback by its content.

According to the ad, the mum-of-two was looking for someone to help out with her daughters aged six and two. She needed someone to come to her house for around 12 hours each day, working from 6:30 am to 6 pm.

The babysitter would also potentially have to work weekends with no notice. If that weren't enough to send applicants running for the hills, the babysitter was also told they will be responsible for providing all the food for the children - which must be vegan and organic.

Only women were allowed to apply for the position and candidates also had to pay for their own criminal background check to be completed in order to get the job. The lucky person would then have be paid $100 (£77.39) per week for all their hours of work.

The post adds: "After six months if we are still conducting business, wages will go up to 150 a week. No, you cannot sleep at my condo. No, you cannot have friends over. No, you cannot study/watch YouTube on your phone while on duty."

More than 300 people shared their thoughts on the advert over on Reddit. The post was captioned: "I'm sure that $100 per week will go far to provide the vegan organic food she's demanding the babysitter supply."

Another compared the demanding job and low salary to "slavery", saying: "Someone needs to tell her that slavery is unconstitutional." A third commented: "I will never understand how people could leave their children in the care of someone who is willing to accept $1.66 an hour."

"Lady feed your own damn kids. How can anyone expect a babysitter to provide for the kids she's watching? So many red flags here. Nope, not ever," proclaimed a different user.

Someone else said: "There was a lady in my community that was wanting a sitter four days a week from 7 am to 5 am (Monday to Thursday) for three kids.

"She was going off on people about how she's a single mother and needs help when she was called out on the ridiculous hours/expectations for childcare. She deleted her post later."
