Donald Trump, the disgraced former US President, was left feeling 'insulted' and 'bristling' after Russian leader Vladimir Putin showed support for Joe Biden in the upcoming US elections, an expert has claimed.

Speaking at a rally in South Carolina, Trump responded to Putin's comments with a mix of surprise and humour.

Trump told his supporters: "Putin is not a fan of mine. [...] I said, 'well that's insulting' and then I said, 'wait a minute, that's actually a very good thing, I think I'll mention it tonight at the speech in front of the people of South Carolina.'"

He also claimed: "[The Ukraine war] would never happen if I was a president. Under the Trump administration, we will return to peace through strength."

Body language expert Judi James watched Trump's reaction and found it "hilarious". She said it showed how Trump was torn between two feelings - being upset that Putin might prefer Biden over him, but also finding the situation amusing.

Judi James told The Mirror: "His revealed response looks ego-driven. As a competitive alpha he looks furious that anyone should choose anyone over him. His body bristles and as he uses the word 'insulting' in a moment of what looks like truth, his upper lip rises in a sneer of naked disgust."

"His brows pull into a frown and he suddenly shouts out 'South Carolina' in a loud growl followed by a tight lip with gritted teeth and mouth expression of anger. The logical fact that an endorsement by Putin might be a nail in Biden's coffin right now appears secondary to some very personal anger at what might look like an 'insulting' rejection."

"Even though Trump does pull this more logical point out eventually, the sting of the 'rejection' is still what dominates his non-verbal responses here."

In an interview with Russian state television, Vladimir Putin expressed a preference for Joe Biden to win a second term over Donald Trump. He said: "Biden, he's more experienced, more predictable, he's a politician of the old formation. But we will work with any U.S. leader whom the American people trust."

He added, however: "I believe that the position of the current administration is badly flawed and wrong, and I have told President Biden about that."

Trump, meanwhile, recently called into question US funding for Ukraine and said he once warned he would allow Russia to do whatever it wants to NATO member nations that are "delinquent" in investing in their own defence.

President Joe Biden has pledged to continue supporting NATO and provide military assistance to Ukraine, while former President Donald Trump's position on NATO and aid to Ukraine has left people questioning their value.

A person speaking for Biden's campaign said: "Donald Trump just gave Vladimir Putin the best possible Valentine's Day present: his pinky-promise to give Putin the green light to mow down our allies in Europe if he's elected president."

When asked what he thought about talks on Biden having health problems, Putin said: "I'm not a doctor and I don't consider it proper to comment on that." He also mentioned that Biden looked to be in good health when they met in Switzerland in June 2021.
