'I caught my mum sleeping with my brother-in-law - I melted in shame'
A man has been left with a massive dilemma after discovering his mum is having an affair with his brother-in-law. The 28-year-old man explained the family had learnt about the relationship at his in-laws' anniversary party and that his wife's family are well-off and quite traditional.
His wife's family is made up of her parents, brother Ben who is the same age as him, with a younger sister in college, but there is only him and his mum in his family. During the party, the man's 28-year-old wife told him she was "100 percent sure" his mum was in a physical relationship with her brother. His wife said the pair had disappeared and when his wife ran upstairs to her brother's room and opened the door there was an immediate reaction, with her shouting.
In a post shared to Reddit, the embarrassed son said he followed her along with a few other people from the party, adding: "It was embarrassing as f**k. I melted in shame." When they opened the door, they found his wife's brother Ben and his mum "half naked and pretty drunk. They were making out when wife caught them".
His raging wife told him that she had been eyeing and observing his mum for a while and had not mentioned it earlier as she had wanted to make sure. he said that Ben immediately put his trousers on and ran towards the bathroom, but his mum wasn't able to fix her clothes. He added: "I immediately covered her with my blazer, my wife didn't like that. Within seconds, the situation escalated and my wife's parents started insulting my mum, calling her names, blaming her for luring their 'son' and having 'dirty' relationships with him'.
The man said that Ben locked himself in the bathroom and the rest of his family immediately started to blame his mum, with Ben seemingly getting a free pass on the whole situation. He said: "Everyone just blamed my mum. My wife's mum literally shamed my mum, saying women like her (middle-aged, divorced) are the worst." The man subsequently took his mother back to his apartment – which is adjacent to his mother's apartment that he also owns. However, his wife, furious over the situation, wants him to kick her out as she doesn't want to see her again.

The man added: "I denied that. Because I really don't understand why everyone is blaming just my mum? Am I the a**hole?" He later updated the post to reveal that his wife had said her parents do not support the relationship between her brother and his mother. And he said: "He wants to leave his house and move into my mum's apartment. I am yet to talk to my mum, but Ben's saying my mum's also supporting him. It's all going messed up now."
Fellow users of the social media site had some sympathy for him and his plight, with many pointing out that the pair are consenting adults, and his mum shouldn't be getting all of the blame, with one saying: "Ok, let me say this… while I get that was shocking, they are both grown adults. Why purposely go out of your way to embarrass them? Maybe confront them separately after the party, but this was not the way to handle this, and another added: "Honestly though, they never should have been confronted at all."
And another said: "Yup. I think your wife is the a*****e in this situation because she's the one that escalated it when could've easily done the investigating in a more subtle manner. Or better yet, stop it before it started, considering she had her suspicions." One user said they would have been fuming if their sister had burst into their room "because she was worried I was making an adult decision by myself with which she didn't agree".
