Man in 'Purge-style mask' used hatchet to 'sacrifice dog' instead of girlfriend
Police were called to a home in Holts Summit on Feb. 5 when building management said they found a bloody hatchet, a dismembered dog, and a ton of blood in the garage.
After an investigation, police arrested Elijah Paul Juarez, 23, and charged him with 12 different felonies. Authorities searching the home found the bloody hatchet along with bloody scissors.
They noticed various parts of a dismembered dog, later confirmed by a veterinarian. The home contained dog testicles, a head, paws, and other internal organs in a freezer, according to the affidavit. The rest of the dog was found in a black trash bag. A pile of blood was on the floor - almost dry.

The veterinarian responding to the scene determined that Juarez shot the dog, then dismembered and gutted the animal.
Detectives were able to locate and interview a young woman who claimed to be romantically involved with Juarez before he threatened and sexually assaulted her in the days leading up to the "sacrifice" of the dog.
Juarez's girlfriend claimed that on Feb. 1, he slapped her, pulled her hair, and ripped off her fake eyelashes. She also accused him of pinning her down on a bed and blocking the door so she couldn't escape.
Elijah Juarez is facing charges after he sexually assaulted his girlfriend and dismembered his dog at his home in Holts Summit, Missouri, cops say (Calloway County Jail)Three days later, she returned to the home to collect her things and leave, only to find Juarez wearing a red and black mask like those in the 'Purge' films. Juarez allegedly hurled a bowling ball through her car's back window and his own car's front window, causing over $750 worth of damage.
She managed to get away, but days later, she began getting messages from Juarez saying she "failed the test" and "she would have been the sacrifice, but had to sacrifice something else," court papers reveal.
Juarez then sent a text message of a photo of a dead dog. She claimed to police that Juarez made comments about her "dying before her birthday."
On Feb. 9, she told police in another interview that Juarez had sexually assaulted her on Jan. 22 and Feb. 3. Juarez had allegedly filmed the Jan. 22 assault, the statement says.
Police found messages from Juarez to the victim, suggesting that "death was hovering over them" and that he had sacrificed the dog to "Malek," a "Biblical God-like entity that a human sacrifice was often made to."
While Juarez was at the Missouri Psychiatric Center, his family flew in from California to clear out his home.
A second statement revealed that Juarez allegedly tried to call the victim from Callaway County Jail on Monday, trying to persuade her not to cooperate with the prosecution. Juarez had four outstanding warrants related to cases filed in the Holts Summit Municipal Court.
