Tim Steidten has revealed he has NOT been 'contacted' over becoming the next Liverpool sporting director.

Steidten, 44, who is currently at West Ham, has been linked with the vacancy at Anfield following the departure of Jorg Schmadtke earlier this month. Stieden was appointed as the Hammers' new technical director in July 2023, having previously worked for Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen.

However, reports emerged last week that there is 'no love lost' between Steidten and David Moyes at West Ham, with the duo involved in an ongoing rift over player transfers. It's also claimed the Hammers are bracing for an approach from Liverpool for Steiden, who is yet to be 'contacted'.

During his time in Leverkusen, Steidten appointed Xabi Alonso as their new manager in October 2022. Alonso is the reported frontrunner to become Jurgen Klopp's replacement on Merseyside after the German confirmed he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

"I've heard that I am supposed to be on the list at Liverpool," he told Sky Germany. "It is one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it's an honour. But so far nobody from LFC has contacted me yet.

"I generally feel very comfortable at West Ham. I quickly realised how intense this league is. Accordingly, we signed the right players in the last transfer windows. The squad is strong, so we can achieve our goals.

"I am looking forward to facing the next weeks and months until the end of the season. Of course, we are already planning the next window. What happens to the future, we will see."

Schmadtke, who arrived at Liverpool in May 2023, left the club at the end of the January transfer window as part of sweeping changes made by Fenway Sports Group. The German replaced Julian Ward, who left just a year after replacing long-standing Michael Edwards in the role. Edwards has been linked with a return to Anfield, while Liverpool are also reportedly looking at Bournemouth chief Richard Hughes as their next sporting director.

Speaking about Schmadtke's exit last month, FSG president Mike Gordon said: "We would like to place on record our gratitude to Jorg for the important role he has played since joining Liverpool last summer.

"He has made a valuable contribution, both in terms of the support he provided to Jurgen Klopp and the assistance and guidance given to our outstanding football operations department.

"As well as departing with our appreciation for his efforts, we would also like to take this opportunity to offer Jorg and his family our very best wishes for the future."

Meanwhile, Schmadtke will now seek other opportunities in the game. He said: "Liverpool is a very special club so to have had the opportunity to work here has been a huge honour for me, even though I knew from the outset that it would only be for a short period.

"I would like to thank everyone – the owners, manager, staff, players and fans – for the support I have been given and offer my best wishes for the rest of this season."
