Mum slates husband's 'last-minute' Valentine's Day card - and people are divided
Would you be annoyed if you found out your partner had left their Valentine's Day prep to the last minute?
While many would be grateful that their partner had made any sort of effort with a card and a present to mark February 14, one woman was left disgruntled when her husband purchased a card with an embarrassing error. Despite the fact he'd chosen a sweet card with a teddy bear, love hearts and a sweet message, he'd picked out a card addressed "to my handsome fiancé" in gold calligraphy along the top - and it landed him in hot water.
The anonymous woman admitted that despite the fact she knows how "last-minute" he can be, she was still disappointed. She took to Mumsnet to say: "My husband is a typical last-minute card and present buyer, but this really takes the biscuit." And she wasn't too impressed with the excuses he made either, as she wrote he'd said: "It was the last one left in Tesco Express, Asda was too busy and he had forgotten his glasses."
She wasn't impressed with the card he'd chosen, and didn't see the funny side (mumsnet)But the woman felt that her husband's excuses weren't good enough, as she said he could have easily picked up a card at an earlier date rather than leaving it until the last minute. He had another excuse for that, however, saying he was "recovering from his Covid jab", but she just wasn't buying it. She also furiously penned: "Excuse for not buying one before that - none."
Since being posted, the mum has received numerous comments from users who agreed it wasn't good enough, as one said: "Yeah that is pretty c***. Wrong on all levels!" Another agreed: "Oh my! Yeah, I would have rather he didn't bother. That's just rude. It would be funny if you were not in the situation."
'I don't want children staying up late at weekends - I really need adult time'
A third wrote: "I think I'd rather have had a homemade card or some kind of love voucher than one calling me a bloke." However, others saw the funny side of the situation.
One person wrote: "Lol yeah that's pretty c*** but I would probably just laugh and take the mickey for at least the next year, and expect him to pay for a takeaway tonight. I personally wouldn't get really cross, but it depends on your relationship and how seriously you take Valentine's Day."
Another joked: "Hahaha! Did he go self-checkout? Bless him, God does love a trier. I wouldn't be disappointed but may use it as an excuse for extra attention on Valentine's night. A long massage first would be nice for example."
But one person who thought she was being unreasonable wrote: "He got you a card. You know he is a last-minute present buyer. Lower your expectations or tell him well in advance what you expect." And another added: "At least your partner actually got you a card."
