Meghan and Harry's new website has caused controversy

Meghan Markle "can’t let go of Royal Family" as she and Prince Harry launched their controversial new website, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex unveiled their rebranded website, sussex.com, which will give fans updates on their endeavours both publicly and privately. They tried to move away from their royal titles in 2020, as they stepped down as senior working royals and relocated to the US to carve out careers away from the monarchy. Now, they’ve relaunched their website using their regal titles, which is an indication they’re trying to build bridges between them and Harry’s estranged family.

Royal commentator Camilla Tominey claimed the couple’s decision to go back to their regal titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex is a sign Meghan "can’t let go" of the Royal Family, but royal fans are not happy with their U-turn. "There is absolutely no reason for these non-working royals to carry on using their titles – not least with an entire website dedicated to telling the world that they are much, much more than mere royalty," she fumed.

She claimed the couple’s popularity is so low in the UK and the US, that a rebrand wouldn’t be enough to save their image. "It is a shame because these two actually do have the power to make a difference, if only they could get over themselves," Camilla wrote. She urged Harry and Meghan to change people’s perception of them if their rebrand "is going to live up to its magisterial pretensions", and claimed Meghan was "shamelessly trading" on the Sussex title.

The couple’s bios on the new website have also attracted criticism, with Meghan’s ‘About Me’ section almost double the length of her husband’s. However, neither description mentions their ties to the Royal Family. Harry is described as a "humanitarian, military veteran, mental health advocate, and environmental campaigner", while the former Suits star is described as a "feminist and champion of human rights and gender equity" who has been named "one of the most influential women in the world".

His profile also mentions his military service, as well as his best-selling memoir Spare. "The Duke is the New York Times Bestselling author of Spare, a memoir of his life told with compassion, vulnerability, and unflinching honesty. Spare was the publishing industry’s fastest selling non-fiction book, selling more than 1.4 million copies on its first day of publication," the website reads.

Meghan’s bio briefly mentions her acting career, but focuses heavily on her philanthropic efforts, as well as her shortlived podcast. "‘In 2018, Meghan married Prince Harry, becoming The Duchess of Sussex. In 2022, Meghan launched ‘Archetypes’, a record-breaking podcast exploring the labels that hold women back. ‘Archetypes’ debuted at Number 1 in The US, UK, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand, and topped the charts as the Number 1 podcast in 47 countries," it read.
