Giving birth is no small feat, and when you're pushing for your life, you want support and words of encouragement.
But when one woman's partner made a vile comment about her while she gave birth to their first child, she was left embarrassed and "humiliated", and it left her with second thoughts about their relationship.
Referring to him as 'Todd', she spoke with Kidspot about how she was giving birth vaginally, and Todd was there with her - and she thought he'd be there to support her through the process.
She explained that the midwife said if he wanted to see the birth of the baby, he'd have to move positions and sit at the end of the bed, and he did. But that's when things went downhill.
The mother-to-be was left feeling confused when she saw Todd "take a few steps back", and proceed to "pull his t-shirt up, so it covered his nose." Looking at him with a confused look, she conveyed the question 'Is there a problem?', and it was after he spoke the following words that everything became confusing for her.

He said to her, as she was giving birth to their first child: "You smell down there. It's a mess down there, it just smells so gross." And she was even more baffled when he told her he needed "fresh air" and left the room, and as a result, he missed the birth of their son, fifteen minutes later.
Todd only returned when the "mess" had been cleaned up, and the "smell" had gone. The new mum said she felt "shamed", and she knew it mustn't have smelled nice, but she was shocked at his immaturity towards a natural process.
She said it made her feel "insecure", rather than "angry", and she was hoping that Todd wouldn't be "turned off" by the experience. However, looking back, she realised that she should've "reprimanded him for his disgusting comment" - but at the time, she didn't, but they broke up a year later.
She said they broke up "Not because of what had happened that day but for other, equally abhorrent reasons", and she should've realised he wasn't very nice after what he did on the day she was giving birth.
