Harry Kane would likely welcome the arrival of Jose Mourinho at Bayern Munich, having formed a strong bond with the Portuguese boss during his time at Tottenham.
Mourinho is being linked with a move to the German giants after being sacked by Roma and with Thomas Tuchel under pressure. Bayern are five points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen after being hammered 3-0 by Xabi Alonso’s side on Saturday.
Expectations are extremely high at Bayern and the availability of Mourinho could prompt a rethink from the club’s hierarchy. The 61-year-old is reportedly keen on the job and has begun taking German lessons in preparation in case Tuchel is fired.
Kane showed his frustrations with Bayern’s performance against Leverkusen, slamming his teammates for giving the ball away and inviting pressure. The England skipper moved to Bavaria in pursuit of trophies following a barren run at Spurs, but is facing all-too-familiar frustrations once again.
Mourinho coached Kane at Tottenham from November 2019 and to April 2021 and while he didn’t manage to end the club’s trophyless run, he did a lot of good for Kane. He contributed a staggering 45 goals and 18 assists in 62 matches under Mourinho, who allowed him to drop deep and act as Spurs’ playmaker as well as primary goal threat.

Kane linked up brilliantly with Son Heung-min and won the Premier League ’s Golden Boot in 2020/21 with 23 goals. Speaking to The Overlap in May 2021, after Mourinho had left, he explained how he clicked with him.
"I think with Jose I had a great relationship with him, we got on from minute one,” he said. “I think we understood each other, we had a similar mentality and how we saw stuff on the pitch, off the pitch and mentality in training so we kind of built that relationship. Again, it’s a shame we couldn’t go on to win things but I’ve been lucky enough to work with Mauricio [Pochettino] and Jose, they’re two incredible managers that’s only helped me in my career for sure.”

Kane went on to explain the similarities between his mindset and Mourinho's, adding: "Jose’s got so much experience in the biggest of games at the biggest of clubs and that’s what I mean by saying we had a similar mentality in that aspect in doing anything to win. And that’s the game. Jose just wanted to win.
"That was the mentality he was trying to put into the players at Spurs, do anything to win and I think like you said we did become more streetwise, but maybe there were relationships that didn’t quite work there but from my point of view, he was great for me."
The feeling is certainly mutual, with Mourinho speaking glowingly about Kane in the summer of 2021 before Euro 2020. He explained how to get the best out of Kane, by not playing another striker alongside him and allowing him to drop deep, before touching on their personal connection.
“I did yesterday [text him]. Now it’s time to [stand back],” he told talkSPORT. "I know how players are and now it’s time to close the door and leave them in their room with family and close friends. From my side, when a player is my boy, he’s always my boy even when we don’t work together."
