I tried an outdoor pizza oven and I’ll never buy Domino's again

I’ve eaten my fair share of pizzas over the years. Pizza Hut, Pizza Express, Domino's, local takeaways, supermarket counters - I have tried them all. My favourite was always an independent pizzeria in Staffordshire called Klay which sadly closed down last year, and no pizza I’ve had since has ever lived up to their delicious, cheesy delights… until now.

I’ve tried at-home pizza ovens previously, but only a , and while it was relatively affordable at under £50, the pizzas still took 10 minutes to cook and I’ve had local takeaways delivered faster for less.

However, the is a total gamechanger - and you won’t catch me flicking through the Domino's coupons ever again. Usually priced at £249.99, the newly-launched oven is currently and I’ll be impressing friends and family with authentic stonebaked pizzas that top every slice I’ve ever eaten. Its new lower price even makes it

The was incredibly easy to set up, coming with a pizza peel ready to slide pizzas in and out of the oven. The design is sleek and premium looking, and is sure to ensure you’re the host(ess) with the most(est) when it comes to serving up those late-summer, early-autumn socials. The only thing we needed to buy were the wood pellets to fire it up, which cost , and the ingredients to make four pizzas, which came in at around £10 for the bases, tomato puree, cheeses, deli meats and basil from Aldi.

After inserting the wood pellets and firing up the oven, it was ready to start putting in the pizzas within 15 minutes. It heated up incredibly quickly, with the temperature gauge displaying between 400-4500°C - the ideal pizza-making heat. In fact, it got up to temp so quickly that we hadn’t even finished making the first pizza before it was ready to go in.

We used the Jus-Rol pizza bases and topped them with a range of toppings, including chorizo, pepperoni, mozzarella and gouda and placed the pizza onto the pizza peel ready to go into the oven. The 1500g cordierite stone is the ideal surface for cooking pizzas, dispersing heat evenly while absorbing excess moisture for a perfectly cooked crust and crisp base every time.

We found that making the pizzas slightly smaller than 12 inches was best in order to be able to rotate them with ease, making for an evenly-cooked pizza. I couldn’t believe how quickly it was ready, though. I only popped into the house to grab a glass of juice before my brother called me to bring out a plate. It and when it came out of the oven, it looked and smelled incredible.

The pizza was deliciously authentic with a slight smoky and woody flavour from the pellets. The crust was the perfect texture and the cheese melted beautifully, though the chorizo charred on our first attempt, we soon got the knack of making them perfect. The key is the heat and knowing when to add more fuel. We first made the mistake of letting the fuel drop right down before adding more, but then we discovered that the auto-loading hopper will automatically feed through as fuel is consumed, meaning less maintenance and more time to enjoy your delicious pizzas.

We made a total of four pizzas and it took less than 30 minutes to do, and while the initial investment is quite pricey, it soon pays for itself when you stop buying sub-par pizzas. The , with the pellets available for £19 - though this will last you multiple uses - and £10 for the ingredients, works out at £210 all together. Personally I’ve never spent less than £20 when ordering pizzas online or locally, so this device would essentially break even in around 11 uses. Some people order takeaways weekly - and therefore, it would pay for itself within three months.

Cleaning up was really easy too - the wood pellets burn down to a minimal amount of ash, which can easily be poured away and you’re ready to use it again. The oven’s lightweight design has folding legs and a detachable chimney making for easy storage and even portability, great if you have a van or camper.

The . I loved making the pizzas and personalising the toppings or adding a stuffed crust, and no longer will I be wasting my money on extortionate slices when each pizza I made essentially cost £2.50 each with ingredients to spare.
