Meghan Markle won't be happy that her 'dirty laundry' is being 're-hashed'

Thomas Markle has sent well wishes to King Charles after the monarch was diagnosed with cancer, but it looks like he's risked widening the rift with his estranged daughter Meghan Markle.

Thomas, who has had his own health struggles, said he hopes the King recovers soon. Buckingham Palace confirmed the monarch has been diagnosed with an unspecified cancer that was discovered when he was undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate.

While Thomas might have meant well by offering his support, one PR expert suggested it might have upset Meghan. The Duchess of Sussex has a fraught relationship with her father and the pair haven't seen each other since before her wedding to Prince Harry.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, PR expert Ryan McCormick said: "I would imagine that Meghan would not be pleased at her father making a public gesture of well wishes to Charles. This doesn't make the Duchess of Sussex look good and it re-hashes Markle's dirty laundry pertaining to family affairs."

Addressing the King, Thomas told the Daily Mail: "I want to send my best wishes to King Charles and hope he gets well very soon. I wish him all the good wishes in the world."

Meghan fell out with her father when he staged a number of paparazzi photos before her wedding to Harry. He also released a private letter from his daughter to the media and has sold multiple interviews about their relationship.

In 2020, Thomas made matters worse when he made a documentary titled Thomas Markle: My Story, where he heavily criticised Meghan and Harry and even claimed "the Royals owe" him for raising his own daughter. King Charles famously walked Meghan down the aisle when she married Harry after Thomas didn't make it to the wedding.

Meanwhile, Harry seems to be taking steps to mend his fractured relationship with Charles as he flew to the UK to support his father following his cancer diagnosis. During his trip to the UK, Harry sat down for a half an hour chat with the King. It's believed this was their first proper private conversation for 15 months.

However, Harry headed back to Los Angeles after just 25 hours in the UK. Following his brief visit, he was seen at the 2024 NFL Honours ceremony in Las Vegas to present an award.
