William makes major announcement about key event he usually attends with Kate
Prince William's Earthshot Prize Awards has announced the location for its fourth annual awards ceremony.
The Prince of Wales, who founded the initiative to help protect and restore the planet, has attended every awards ceremony since the programme started in 2021 - and his wife Kate has also attended two of the ceremonies. Now it has been revealed that this year's ceremony is set to be held in Cape Town, South Africa, later this year. At the moment, there is no confirmation if William or Kate will travel to the ceremony.
The announcement comes as there will be no international travel for the Prince and Princess of Wales in the coming months as Kate continues to recover from abdominal surgery, which she underwent last month. She is currently recuperating at home in Windsor and won't be resuming public duties until at least Easter.

The third ceremony was held in Singapore in November, however William travelled to this ceremony alone and Kate stayed at home in order to support their oldest son Prince George, who was doing exams at school at that time.
Kensington Palace refused to comment on what exams future king George, 10, was taking. However, the preliminary entrance exams for Eton College, known as ISEBs, occured at that time as the Earthshot Prize last year.

The 2024 awards will come amid five days of events in South Africa, which will "celebrate the groundbreaking work of fifteen global environmental solutions and convene leading innovators, Earthshot Alumni, partners, investors and philanthropists for inspiring conversations and action on catalysing solutions to protect and restore our planet".

Hannah Jones, CEO of The Earthshot Prize said: "This is the Earthshot Decade, a decade in which we must, by 2030, reduce CO2 emissions by over 40 percent, and protect 30 percent of nature, oceans, and freshwater. The nominations to The Earthshot Prize remind us that human ingenuity, grit and determination can turn the seemingly impossible into the new normal.
"We’re delighted to be working with changemakers and partners across Africa to spotlight the incredible innovation emerging across the continent, to convene courageous conversations about scale and finance, and to partner with young creators and filmmakers to tell the story of changemakers across Africa."
The announcement comes as William had taken time off to support his family after Kate’s operation on January 16, and returned to public duties on Wednesday once her care and recovery had settled. But his first day back on duty came as the royal family was dealing with the health scare surrounding his father King Charles, who has been diagnosed with cancer.
First, he conducted an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle before attending a charity gala for the London Air Ambulance, where he spoke about the King's cancer diagnosis for the first time as he expressed his gratitude to the public for their “kind messages of support”. William’s words of praise, also recognised those who wished the Princess of Wales well, as she recovers from planned abdominal surgery. He told the guests: “It means a great deal to us all.”
He said: "I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you, also, for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to us all. It’s fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather medical focus, so I thought I’d come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all."
