Chiefs players issue defiant response to boos on Super Bowl Opening Night

Kansas City Chiefs players were met with a chorus of boos at the Super Bowl Opening Night on Monday.

It was clear that the San Francisco 49ers had more fans in Las Vegas, where Sunday's game will take place. Inside Allegiant Stadium, there were 23,892 fans watching the opening night, which is about 40 percent of the capacity for Sunday's sellout game.

This gave the players a taste of what to expect during Super Bowl LVIII. Despite being seen as the villains by some, the Chiefs aren't letting it get to them. Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce admitted that the 49ers are "1,000 percent" different from the team they beat in the Super Bowl four years ago.

He also confessed they don't have a wide receiver like Tyreek Hill to rely on as they did in 2020. But they are Super Bowl champions for a reason and won't be distracted by the noise.

Last year, the Chiefs narrowly defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in the Super Bowl. They are once again up against a team known for their defensive prowess. "Both of them (Eagles and 49ers) have really good defences. We played a great defensive line last year and we play a great defensive line this year," said Chiefs offensive lineman Creed Humphrey when being asked about the noise on Tuesday by Mirror Sport.

"It's all about getting the game plan down and understanding what we need to do in situations." The Chiefs aren't worried about the number of fans in the stands, according to Humphrey. "We're not overly concerned about who is going to be at the stadium, we are there to play the game," he said.

"At the end of the day, it's 11 on 11 so we've gone down the road in these playoffs now playing in away stadiums for the past two games. In a hostile environment, we are ready to roll."

The Chiefs have shown their resilience by reaching the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five seasons, despite not being at their best during the regular season. This sentiment was echoed by Chiefs defensive end George Karlaftis.

"I'm not gonna say it's whatever but it's not going to really affect too much," Karlaftis said. "Whoever is there I know Chiefs Kingdom is going to show out. But to us, it's the same thing."

"It's a neutral site at the end of the day. Same length and width of the football field so we don't really care about that. For me just having won one last year there's so much hunger to win this one. It's a unique feeling."
