With up to 10 inches of snowfall affected to hit the UK, it doesn't look like we'll be drying our clothes outside any time soon.

As soaring energy bills continue to hit cash-strapped Brits, relying on the tumble dryer could add up. In electricity alone, using the appliance for 60 minutes a day, five times a week, would cost £15.90. But drying your house indoors can be difficult, and can even result in problems with condensation and mould.

However, a laundry expert has shared how to dry clothes faster without using a tumble dryer - including one habit you should do 'every few hours'.

If, like many Brits, you're using an airer to dry your clothes inside - it's important to place them in a well-ventilated room to prevent mould from forming, using a dehumidifier too if necessary. Putting heavy items such as bedding and denim on an extra spin cycle will also help speed the process along, and will prevent any pools of water from soaking your carpets.

Cleaning brand Smol recommends 'checking your clothes every few hours and rotating them around'. They say this prevents some part of the clothes from drying quickly whilst other parts remain damp.

Investing in a heated airer could also make a huge difference to your energy bills, and prevent your clothes turning stuffy. According to U-switch, running a heated drying rack for one hour, five times a week, would only set you back £2.15 a month.

They're available from a slew of retailers, and prices range from £40 to over £100 depending on their size and power. Argos currently has one on sale for £44 - while Wilkos is flogging them for £62. Recently, the Mirror compared the true cost of buying and running a heated airer against using a tumble dryer.
