Prince Harry would have gladly accepted an invitation to see his brother Prince William after flying over from California to see his father amid reports the brothers are not set to meet.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, landed in London yesterday afternoon, without his wife Meghan Markle, to see King Charles following the shock announcement that the 75-year-old has cancer.

Harry cleared his diary to be with his father despite their troubled relationship, raising concerns about the seriousness of the King's health. Ahead of meeting the King, the Mirror exclusively revealed that William had no plans of catching up with his younger brother, despite Harry being open to it.

Sources close to the Duke, who now lives in Montecito, California, have suggested he would have welcomed an opportunity to meet with William “if the opportunity were to arise”. A source said: “The Duke's primary reason to travel to the UK is to visit his father. If the opportunity were to arise to see the Prince of Wales then the Duke would have gladly accepted it.”

Yesterday, we reported that William's priority is looking after his wife Kate, who is recovering from abdominal surgery and is taking extended leave from public duties until after Easter, sources have said.

Prince Harry was pictured arriving at Clarence House yesterday at about a quarter past three, having been driven straight there with a police escort following his 10-hour flight from Los Angeles.

It's the first time Harry has seen his father since his Coronation nine months ago - but the meeting was not a long one. Just half an hour later, at quarter to four, the King and Queen were seen waving to crowds as they left Clarence House.

Today, William is expected to return to public work, carrying out an investiture at Windsor Castle in the morning and later attending a gala for the London Air Ambulance in the evening.

The King personally called both his sons, as well as his siblings the Princess Royal, the Duke of York and the Duke of Edinburgh, to inform them of his cancer diagnosis last week, palace officials confirmed. Harry is understood to have agreed to delay his visit to the UK until a public announcement was made by Buckingham Palace on Monday evening.

A source close to William said: “The prince’s main focus is for his wife, who is recovering from surgery, his three children and now his father. There are no plans for Harry’s visit to act as some kind of vehicle for reconciliation.”
