When King Charles was diagnosed with cancer this week, Prince Harry traveled to the UK to be with him.

Harry's wife, Meghan Markle, stayed in California with the couple's two children, Archie, four, and Lilibet, two. Meanwhile, the Duke of Sussex was seen arriving at a private terminal at Los Angeles International Airport to head to be with his father.

While there's some debate why the Duchess of Sussex stayed home - with rumours saying she promised never to return to the United Kingdom - one source that previously worked for the royal family thinks Harry might have just needed to spend some time alone.

"Meghan made the decision that it was best to stay home with the children, and maybe she feels that this is something Harry has got to do alone," Grant Harrold said to the New York Post.

Grant used to work for King Charles for seven years, back when he was still a prince, as a butler. He added: "It’s his father. She’s aware of the close relationship and probably encouraged him to come over.”

While Meghan isn't there now, Grant hasn't ruled out the possibility that she could join her husband sometime soon and even bring her children. "I’m sure at some point they will bring the grandchildren over, that might be part of what’s being discussed — an opportunity for them to come over as a family,” Grant added.

But Meghan once promised that she would never return to England, according to royal author Omid Scobie. He said that she "never felt at home" in the UK and that Meghan "never wants to set foot again in England."

But now that the king is diagnosed with cancer, things might change. Last month, the head royal was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate and spent three days in the hospital being treated for it.

While treating it, they found something unrelated and later diagnosed it as cancer, though it hasn't been said what kind. A source close to Harry told The Mirror that Charles himself told his son about his prognosis.

"The duke did speak with his father about his diagnosis. He will be traveling to UK to see His Majesty in the coming days," the source said.
