King Charles 'delighted' to see Prince Harry despite rocky relationship

King Charles will be "delighted" to reunite with Prince Harry who is set to travel back to the UK in the "coming days", his former communications secretary has revealed.

It comes after Buckingham Palace announced His Majesty was diagnosed with cancer following his recent hospital procedure. Following the devastating news, the King's estranged son is expected to fly to London after Charles phoned him and Prince William to inform them about his health.

The monarch's former communications secretary, Kristina Kyriacou, shared the update and said that it is "lovely" that Harry will make a return. However, she added that there is "no need for anyone to rush to the King's bedside".

Speaking about the upcoming reunion, she told Sky News: "The King will be delighted to see him, and if some good news can come out of this and there's an overall reconciliation, I think everyone will be happy."

Harry will clear his diary and travel from his home in California, with the move likely to raise concerns about the seriousness of the King’s condition. The trip will be a solo one, with the Duchess of Sussex staying in the US with the couple’s two children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

“The duke did speak with his father about his diagnosis. He will be travelling to the UK to see His Majesty in the coming days,” the Office of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said. The decision will also raise hopes of a reconciliation within the royal family.

Harry has a troubled relationship with his father, although they are still in contact, but his long-running rift with the Prince of Wales remains ongoing. Charles, according to Harry, pleaded with his sons during a tense meeting after the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral: “Please, boys. Don’t make my final years a misery.”

In a statement on Monday, the Palace said: "During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

"The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
