King's poignant explanation for going public with bombshell cancer diagnosis
King Charles made the brave decision to share his cancer diagnosis with the public in order to "prevent speculation" and assist public understanding of those affected by cancer, Buckingham Palace has revealed.
The King was recently in hospital for a procedure related to benign prostate enlargement, when a "separate issue of concern was noted" by medical experts. Later tests diagnosed King Charles with a form of cancer, and he started his "regular treatments" today. An official royal statement released at 6pm said the monarch "has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
He has also been advised to "postpone public-facing duties" but will continue to carry out State business and official paperwork like usual. According to the statement, he remains "wholly positive" about his treatment and "looks forward to returning to public duty" as soon as possible.

Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.
"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual. The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure.
