Thug kicked man to death, robbed four and raped two women in four-day rampage
A violent bully who beat a man to death and left him to die in the street, raped two women and committed four robberies in an horrific four-day crime spree, has been jailed for life.
Carl Ellitts was caught on CCTV holding 48-year-old Roy Deeley-Price on the ground on his back and by his throat. He then stamped on his head and face six times, knocking him unconscious before kicking him again in the head. Detectives were able to identify and piece together a string of offences against vulnerable people that Ellitts committed in a violent four-day rampage leading up to the murder. Today he was sentenced to a minimum of 27 years behind bars.
In the early hours of May 26, 2023 Ellitts raped a woman in Wolverhampton after she approached him asking for a spliff. He led her to some bushes where he raped her, before she managed to escape his clutches and ran to a nearby nightclub to get help from a bouncer.
Later the same morning, 26-year-old Ellitts robbed a Good Samaritan who had tried to help him after noticing that he wasn't wearing shoes. The victim took Ellitts back to his house to let him use his bathroom and gave him some footwear. But Ellitts turned on him, and demanded his bank card and pin. Fearing for his safety the man went to a bank with Ellitts and handed him £180.
Later that evening, a woman approached Ellitts as she thought he was homeless. Ellitts put a cloth around her mouth and took her to a secluded location where he raped her. She managed to escape from him and bravely reported the rape to a shopkeeper.

The following day, on the evening of May 27, he carried out another robbery. The victim was carrying a bag containing £60 cash and CCTV captured Ellitts grabbing the victim's bag, dragging him along the floor before he ran off. On May 28, the same day as Ellitts killed Mr Deeley-Price, he attacked a man who'd withdrawn £60 from a cashpoint and tried to rob him.
Roy Deeley-Price was kicked to death by Ellitts (PA)Ellitts threatened his vicitm with what he later told police was a Baaz, an item used by Sikh men to set their turbans. He said he would stab him if he refused to give him money but the victim managed to push Ellitts away and ran into a nearby shop. This victim died of an unrelated cause in the weeks following the robbery.
On the afternoon of the same day Ellitts had targeted another victim, kicking him to the floor, and putting a broken glass to his face before pulling his Nike trainers from his feet.
At 10pm Ellitts approached Mr Deeley-Price, who'd just visited an ATM at a nearby petrol station, and grappled with him before tripping him up and pinning him on his back on the ground, holding him by his throat. The savage attack then saw him stamp on Mr Deeley's head and face up to six times, knocking him unconscious before Ellitts kicked him again in the head.
Ellitts walked away, but less than a minute later returned and dragged Mr Deeley-Price's body into a nearby bush before carrying out another vicious attack on him. The 48 year old was discovered the following morning and he was pronounced dead at the scene. West Midlands Police launched a manhunt and arrested Ellitts on May 30, after appealing to the local community for information. He refused to make any comment when officers questioned him.
Appearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court last month Ellitts admitted to the murder. Today he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for each of the three counts of rape, all to run concurrently to the 27 years minimum term for murder.
He was also sentenced to three years each for two robberies, two years for another robbery and three years for an assault with intent to rob, all to run concurrently.
Detective Inspector Damian Forrest said: “Ellitts is an extremely violent bully who carried out a number of robberies and two rapes all targeted against vulnerable people in Wolverhampton before he attacked Mr Deeley-Price leaving him to die in the street.
“Although this will never bring Roy back and it will not heal the family’s sense of loss, I hope securing convictions on all counts with sentencing to come will be justice. I would also like to commend the bravery of the two women who Ellitts raped. They courageously came to court during the trial and gave evidence, securing convictions for all his cowardly crimes."
