Cinema cleaner sparks fury with photo as parents urged to 'raise kids better'
A cinema worker has shared a shocking insight into the mess that film lovers create - and it's a wake-up call for parents.
Cinema trips are synonymous with popcorn, nachos, fountain drinks, chocolates, sweets and hot dogs. We all love to indulge and get lost in the magic of a good film - but that's no excuse to leave your manners at home.
Although many people make sure to take their mess out to the bins, the shocking reality is that not everyone does - as the pictures below prove. Sadly, there are a lot of cinema-goers who feel entitled to make a mess and leave it for someone else to clean up.
The cinema cleaner explained that a group of teenagers, who had "purchased a private screening" were intent on making a mess, leaving the room in a complete state. In a series of photos posted on Reddit, with the caption "a group of teenagers came in just to trash the theatre," bucketloads of popcorn kernels could be seen scattered on the flooring, carpet and on chairs - as well as other wrappers and rubbish.
Snacks were even strewn in front of the screen where there were no seats, making it clear there had been some sort of deliberate attempt to make a mess. According to the poor cleaner, who was left to deal with the aftermath of their 'fun', the teens had "repeatedly refilled their concessions" for the first 10 minutes of the film, and had left "20 minutes before their movie ended".
'I don't want children staying up late at weekends - I really need adult time'
In the comment section, the anonymous cleaner also revealed the teens had bought 'icees' which they "threw everywhere," making the popcorn stick to the floor. After using two vacuums to clean the mess they also needed mops - taking extra time.
Now the cleaner is considering to "push it to corporate" that they should send a cleaning fee to one of the teenager's mums, who had paid for the screening and then left. He added: "Especially during a time where theatres are struggling this solution definitely could be beneficial."
After seeing the photos online, many were outraged, with several people laying blame on the teenagers' parents. One person wrote: "Scumbags...what sort of trash parents do these kids have that raised them to do s**t like this?...I did dumb s**t as a kid but nothing so disrespectful as this."
Another suggested: "OK if they purchased a private screening then trace them through their credit cards and charge them for damages, ban them from the theatre chain. There are ways to hold them accountable. Oh and their s***ty parents too," to which the original poster replied: "At the very least contact this person and ensure they understand the condition their children left this place."
However, others reckoned it is the cleaner's job to clean up the mess, with one individual writing: "if we kept it clean you wouldn't have a job," while another said "that's the job," and suggested they "quit" if they don't like it.
However, most people agreed that it is better to "show some basic courtesy for others," with another person adding: "This is terrible. I can't stand people that can't respect others property."
