Mikel Arteta's reaction speaks volumes after Arsenal battle to Liverpool win
Mikel Arteta could only bury his face into his hands when Arsenal gave up their lead against Liverpool - only to see his team battle back to secure a stunning 3-1 win.
The Gunners ultimately clawed three points back in the race for the title against Premier League leaders Liverpool but it was not an easy afternoon at the Emirates.
Arsenal earned an early lead when Bukayo Saka converted the rebound when Kai Havertz's shot was saved by Alisson. The home side dominated the opening half and at times scythed through Liverpool's backline but could not extend their lead before the break.
In the end, they were unable to close the first 45 minutes with their lead intact. Stoppage time saw William Saliba attempt to shield the ball from Luis Diaz and into the arms of David Raya as it trailed into the six-yard box. The Frenchman appeared to misjudge Raya's proximity and Diaz was able to stretch around him and scoop the ball.
The Colombian's hit avoided Raya and hit the spinning hand of Gabriel which guided the ball into the net to level the scores. Liverpool were sent into jubilation and Arsenal into disbelief.

The calamitous scenes were frustrating end to the half for the north London side hoping to close the gap at the top of the table. Mikel Arteta could only turn away and cover his face with both hands. A significant moment.
The Spaniard was left with a very different reaction to the next howler, however. Arteta bounded around the sideline punching the air as Liverpool ensured the Gunners had an opportunity to restore their lead.
Arteta saw his Arsenal team battled to a deserved win over LiverpoolGabriel Martinelli put a nudge into Virgil van Dijk which saw the Dutchman divert from the ball as he looked to protect it for Alisson. The Reds goalkeeper avoided clearing the ball as Van Dijk remained in his way and the ball trickled through to Martinelli to slot into an open goal.
Ultimately, Liverpool's error had the biggest impact on the match and Arsenal were able to see the remainder of the game out. Ibrahima Konate picked up a second yellow card for blocking the run of Kai Havertz to leave Jurgen Klopp frustrated.
Arteta's side continued to come forward to challenge the Reds and Leandro Trossard was able to take advantage of the space left on the right side of the pitch. The Belgian broke into Liverpool box before sending a shot across goal that clipped Van Dijk and went in through the legs of Alisson.
Arteta certainly enjoyed the moment. The Spaniard went speeding down the sideline in celebration before curling his run around to the bench as the stadium went into bedlam.
