Strictly's Amy Dowden shows off hair growth as she shares health update

Amy Dowden has updated her fans on Instagram as she continues her battle with breast cancer and has revealed that she is starting to grow her hair again, after losing it during chemotherapy.

The 33-year-old Strictly Come Dancing professional underwent a mastectomy after being told that she had breast cancer in May 2023 and then was told by doctors that she had a secondary cancer, which she has been battling since. After a few down days over the past year, the dancer told her followers in the video clip that she was "happy" that her hair was returning.

Amy was full of smiles in a selfie from her car as she held her thumb up to the camera before telling her fans: "It's been a little while so I thought I'd show you my hair growth. Makes me happy to see the difference and looking back. It's coming." The dancer said that she had been at the hospital for an MRI, which she is hoping will be the last time "for a while".

It has been a difficult few months for Amy as she has had a blood clot on her lung, battled sepsis and at the end of last year, she broke her foot which meant that she missed the 2023 series of Strictly Come Dancing. This meant that the pro dancer was feeling "bitter" when she saw people posting their highlights of last year on New Year's Eve.

Speaking on Lorraine in at the start of January she said: "After New Year's Eve when you wake up and see everyone's posts - I was actually quite bitter. My life changed on the day of the diagnosis but cancer changes you forever, it's changed me as a person. I've lost a boob and my hair, I've had sepsis, been into shock, blood clots, I've broken my foot. I saw everyone doing these nice reels and I was quite jealous to be honest."

Amy is now enjoying a honeymoon with her husband Ben in Grenada. She told Lorraine: ""The past year has been tough... cancer diagnosis, treatment, a mastectomy and some setbacks but I'm determined to get my life back on track. Finally, we are honeymooning in Grenada!"

Opening up about the second honeymoon and how it compared to their first, Amy said: "A totally different feeling from when we were on our honeymoon in the Maldives because you [her husband] didn't know but obviously I had this cloud over me, I was present in my first honeymoon but I really wasn't because I found the lump, I was hiding it from Ben."
