Liverpool have started their recruitment process to finding a replacement for Jurgen Klopp - with Mike Gordon set to lead the search from Boston.

Klopp, who has won the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup among other major trophies during his time at Anfield, announced last month he will leave the Reds at the end of the season. It will bring to an end a stellar almost-nine year stint on Merseyside after Klopp was appointed in October 2015.

The news came as a shock to many Liverpool supporters around the world, but the process has already begun to finding a successor for Klopp. According to the Daily Mail, Gordon will lead take responsibility out in USA as they look to find an adequate successor to replace the German.

If the recruitment process is anything like back in 2015, then Liverpool may keep the operation firmly behind-closed-doors. Prior to replacing Brendan Rodgers, Klopp and his agent, Marc Kosicke, were invited to Manhattan for a secret interview as the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss ended up pipping Carlo Ancelotti to the job.

It's said Klopp spoke of his excitement to work with the current group, while Ancelotti claimed he could return Liverpool back to greatness with a couple of additions. Klopp has managed to transform the Reds' fortunes on the pitch without spending as much as the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Klopp and Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have been astute in the transfer market, nailing a high percentage of signings who cost between £20million and £40m, such as Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Georginio Wijnaldum. Players like Jordan Henderson and Roberto Firmino - who were at the Reds before Klopp's arrival - were influential in them winning multiple major honours up until both left last summer.

Liverpool have drawn up a shortlist of candidates to replace Klopp, with Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting CP's Ruben Amorim among those on the list. The club's head of research Will Spearman is set to take take part-lead into the process as they narrow down their leading candidate.

Speaking after his departure was confirmed last month, Klopp said: "I can understand that it's a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it.

"I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take.

"It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again."
