Ah, cleaning your oven - a task that nobody particularly wants to do, as it's incredibly tedious and often the shelves inside can become very grimy. Thankfully, members of a Mrs Hinch Facebook group have made things a whole lot easier, with some suggesting an unusual method, that will cost you nothing, will bring your shelves up sparkling.

In the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, one woman was wondering how to clean the shelves in her mum's oven, joking that her mum preferred gardening to cleaning as the shelf looked grimy and in need of a good scrub.

She wrote: "Cleaning out my Mam's oven (she's always been more interested in gardening than cleaning the oven!). Had the trays in Oven Brite, but they still look like this. Any ideas or should I try to source new ones?"

Many people suggested soaking in the bath, others suggested brillo pads - but some recommended a bizarre idea, which will cost you nothing - leaving it outside overnight.

In previous posts, people have suggested that the dew breaks down the grease on the racks as enzymes remove dirt, but someone had tried and tested it for themselves.

She wrote: "Well I did try the laying on your grass lawn overnight thing and it got a lot mine off may be worth a try.

"Might take two nights turn them over for 2nd one then get your Brillo pad out to remove any stubborn bits!"

Another replied: "Totally agree! Worked for me!" later explaining that they "Came up perfect" after using the method.

Overall, this method is cost-effective as you don't need to buy any additional cleaning products, but of course, you will need to disinfect it before you pop it back in your oven as it'll have been on the grass all night.
