Jurgen Klopp sends Premier League title message to Liverpool before Arsenal game
Jurgen Klopp has told his Liverpool players it is time to “buckle up” for a rollercoaster of a Premier League title race.
The Reds face Arsenal on Sunday hoping to open up an eight-point lead over the Gunners and Manchester City at the top of the table. Now with 16 games to go, the Kop boss is ready for the thrills and spills that come with the business end of the season.
He said: “It's really about us digging deep into the season, keep going, hold your breath, buckle up, all these kind of things and go for it. That's what we are here for with these fantastic players.”
Klopp insists he hasn’t noticed a change in his players since he announced last week that he was leaving the club in the summer. And he doesn’t believe they’re distracted by the noise as they look to fight off City and Arsenal in the race.
The Reds boss said: “If I wouldn’t have announced what I announced a week ago, what would be different? Wouldn’t it be nice to win another Premier League, wouldn’t it be nice to win that, wouldn’t it be nice to do that after all the things we did over the years and how close we were?’ It’s all the same.

“The only little difference is that now they say: ‘For Jurgen’. That’s the only thing. Of course, I want to win the league, but there are so many games between now and then. We have to play them all and we have to win them all, which is absolutely crazy. I just can not think about it.

“I am not a dreamer. But if you ask me if it would be nice then, yes, very nice for everybody involved and the whole Liverpool world. If it can generate a few extra per cent it would be good but I’m not sure that’s needed because we are already at 100 per cent and that is fine.”
Klopp said Darwin Nunez was a doubt for Sunday’s clash after suffering a foot injury in the 4-1 win over Chelsea which caused major swelling. But the Uruguayan forward did train on Friday with the rest of the team.
Liverpool won 2-0 in their last trip at the Emirates in the FA Cup in January, but despite a convincing win, Klopp thinks there are things to learn from the game. “What we learn is that we have to be much more dominant in possession,” he said. “It was a typical away game. Yes, we had a few problems here and there, that’s true, and it’s a cup game, it’s all about the result.
“But I think everybody who saw the game knows that Arsenal could have scored before we scored and that could have given the game a completely different direction. I would prefer us to have more moments where we’re in charge as difficult as it is because they’re really good.”
