Prince Harry fell madly in love with Meghan Markle after being set up on a blind date, but it seems some members of the Royal Family were worried about the romance.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex started dating in 2016 and just two years later, they married in a lavish ceremony at St George's Chapel. The wedding was attended by family, friends and A-list celebrities, but one person wasn't entirely happy - Harry's grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.

It has now been claimed the late monarch was concerned for her grandson and believed he had fallen "too in love" with the American actress. The romance also caused Elizabeth to reflect on her uncle, Edward VIII, and his infatuation with socialite Wallis Simpson.

When she was just 10 years old, Elizabeth's father was crowned King after his brother Edward VIII abdicated so he could marry Wallis Simpson, who was an American socialite and two-time divorcee. When the late Duke of Windsor stepped down from his royal duties, it caused a rift in the Royal Family.

The new King refused to accept his new sister-in-law and denied her the title of Her Royal Highness. Wallis also added to the feud and openly mocked the Queen as "the fat Scotch cook".

The Queen Mother blamed the couple for her husband's early death. She believed her husband died from the stress of being King and never forgave the American Duchess.

Queen Elizabeth was believed to have been deeply affected by this time in her family's history. In an extract from Ingrid Seward's new book My Mother and I, which was shared with the Daily Mail, it's claimed the late monarch was "perfectly aware what Philip meant when he drew parallels between Meghan and Wallis."

Ingrid wrote: "Indeed, much later, she would remark in her clipped way that perhaps Harry had been 'too in love' with the American actress." During Edward VIII's relationship with Wallis, he was infatuated by her.

He began to neglect his royal duties when they first started dating, even though Wallis was still married at the time. During one incident, the Duke asked Wallis to light a cigarette for him, only for her to reply: "Only if you ask properly," which saw Edward get down on his knees and beg.
