Tyson Fury has shown off the cut that cancelled his undisputed heavyweight world title fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

Heavyweight champions Fury and Uysk were scheduled to fight for the undisputed world titles on February 17 in Saudi Arabia but the Brit has suffered a cut in training and the fight has been postponed. Usyk still hopes to defend his world titles on the date after fears Fury need several months to recover from his injury.

The cut above Fury's right eye required "significant medical attention" and the Brit now faces a lengthy period of recovery. “Whilst this is still breaking news it is clearly a massive disappointment, after the work that has been done by so many people to finally deliver this historic event to the world," a statement read.

"Once the Doctors have appraised Tyson’s eye, we will have a better idea of the period of recovery needed. Once known we will work diligently with all the stakeholders and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to reschedule this fight as soon as possible and will of course keep everyone updated with developments,"

Fury said of his injury: “I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such superb condition. I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event and I will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed. I can only apologise to everyone affected including my own team, Team Usyk, the undercard fighters, partners, and fans as well as our hosts and my friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

Fury showed off his slim physique after the fight was cancelled by posting a picture on Instagram and writing: "Cant help getting injured in sparring but what can I say was Usyk was in trouble I am in fantastic shape. I will reschedule soon as I can. 2024 a massive year for Team GK."

Mandatory world title challenger Filip Hrgovic has been suggested as a potential opponent for Fury if the Ukrainian still competes on February 17. Olympic bronze medalist Hrgovic had a quick outing against Mark De Mori on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs Otto Wallin in Riyadh last month.
